According to the science of Ayurveda, asthma is a kapha syndrome and can be from any of these three forms – vaata, pitta or kapha. In most cases, it is kapha in nature. The cause and the symptoms of each of these forms are different and therefore the treatment also differs. Dry cough and wheezing are the main symptoms of vaata type asthma.
Apart from this, there are other symptoms like dry mouth, thirst, constipation, dry skin, craving for warm drinks and even anxiety.
Pitta type asthma is differentiated by wheezing and coughs with yellow phlegm. Other symptoms include, sweating, fever, need for cool air and irritability.
The last type of asthma is the kapha type which is characterized by wheezing and coughs with white phlegm.Recognizing the type of asthma and its causes helps in using the remedies that are appropriate for the patient. It has been observed that in most of the cases, the patient suffers from diarrhea, constipation or indigestion in the preliminary stage of the disease or just before the onset of the disease.
